Penalty & Fine Policy

  • ● Overdue Book Penalty
    • The patron's borrowing privilege will be withheld until the overdue items are returned.
    • After the grace period has expired, the patron's borrowing privilege will be suspended for 6 months.
  • ● Overdue Multimedia Penalty
    • As soon as the multimedia is overdue, the patron's borrowing privilege will be suspended for 3 months.
  • ● Recalled Book Fines
    • If a recalled item is not returned within 14 days of its due date, books begins accrue fines of doubling its market price.
  • ● Lost Book or Multimedia Charges
    • Patrons are responsible for books and multimedia item that they have borrowed, and will be fined for lost books or multimedia.
    • If books or multimedia are lost, it is patron's responsibility to report the loss to the Circulation Desk immediately.
    • Books and multimedia are automatically declared lost when 42 days past due.
    • Lost books and multimedia item accrue fines of doubling its market price.
  • ● Damaged Book or multimedia Charges
    • Patrons are responsible for books and multimedia items that they have borrowed and will be charged for damaged books.
    • The maximum charge will be charge for the replacement of the book or multimedia item.
    • Patrons should not dog-ear pages or stick any adhesive materials in Library books. Patrons may be charged for highlighting, underlining or writing in Library books, or for placing post-it notes or other adhesive markers in books.
    • For multimedia items, the patron is responsible for all damages that occur to them while the materials are checked out and is responsible for replacement/repair charge.
  • ● Replacements
    • When books or multimedia items have been damaged beyond repair or are known to be irretrievably lost, patrons may contact the librarians to discuss replacing the books or multimedia items, in lieu of paying doubling its market price.
    • Replacement copies must be new books and must be the same edition as the lost items, or newer. Used copies are not acceptable replacements; please contact the librarians if a book is out of print. Hardcover books are preferred but paperbacks are acceptable.
    • In case that a lost item belongs to a collection and cannot be purchased separately, the whole collection must be reimbursed.
