Abstract: Automorphic L-functions are introduced by R. Langlands in the 1960's, which is natural generalization of the classical Riemann zeta functions. Automorphic L-functions are defined for all automorphic representations. The analytic properties of such L-functions have deep impact to Number Theory and the basic structure of automorphic representations. In this lecture, I begin with examples of automorphic L-functions, and then discuss the implication of these known analytic properies to the basic structure of automorphic representations. By the end, I will discuss some interesting problems which is still working on, and their relations to the Arthur conjecture on the discrete spectrum of automorphic forms.
