| Abstract: | Zalcman's lemma gives an if-and-only-if condition for non- normality of families of holomorphic maps on a domain in the complex plane. In this talk I will explain some old and new applications of this lemma to dynamics of rational maps on the Riemann sphere: - Density of repelling cycles in the Julia set (after Schwick) - Similarity between Julia sets and the Mandelbrot set (after Tan) - An alternative construction of Lyubich-Minsky laminations |
