Colloquium

Speaker: John Duncan (Emory University)
Title: Moonshine and Arithmetic
Time: 2019-06-06 (Thu.)  15:00 - 16:00
Place: Auditorium, 6 Floor, Institute of Mathematics (NTU Campus)
Abstract: The commencement of monstrous moonshine is a connection between the largest sporadic simple group—the monster—and complex elliptic curves. We will review this, and explain how some recent developments in the theory have related finite simple groups to questions in arithmetic geometry.
